Recipient of the 1916 Bursary, South East Technological University

The 1916 Bursary has had a very positive impact on my life. I had a poor childhood and the struggle with the money continued in my adult life. I am a mature student and single mother of two children.

I live about a 20-minute drive from college, and a car is the only way to get there. When I started college, I had an old and unreliable car. It had serious problems, often engine would not start. When I received the Bursary, I was able to save a bit of money also I got a small loan and I bought myself a better car. For the first time, I was able to pay car insurance and road tax in full.

Also, I got myself a desktop computer and printer, which was useful last year when all lectures moved online. I was able to pay for college books and other expenses. I even manage to save for our first sunny holidays.

None of this would be possible without the 1916 Bursary. Since I did not constantly worry about money I could focus on my studies. I can honestly say that I had a very positive college experience and the bursary played a big part in that.

The application process was straight forward and the college staff was friendly and explained everything.
