Recipient of the 1916 Bursary, University of Galway

The Bursary has had a very positive impact on my life.  It enabled me to study for the music degree, which I have wanted to do for many years but couldn’t because of lack of finances.  The degree has greatly enhanced my professional abilities and prospects as a music teacher.

It would have been impossible for me to achieve at higher education without the Bursary.  I live in Westport, Co. Mayo, and must keep an apartment there because my children live there too.  On my income renting in Galway would simply not have fitted into my budget.  Also, I didn’t have a car, yet would have needed it to travel to Galway daily to attend lectures.  The Bursary enabled me to purchase an economic small second-hand car and cover its costs and travel expenses.  It also helped me to cover extra expenses needed for my studies.  Originally, I was planning to hitch-hike to Galway every day, but I don’t think I would have lasted long this way. Thank you so much for the Bursary, I owe my degree to it.
